All About FWNA

FWNA, Federated Wireless NetAuth, is an experiment initiated by Internet2. FWNA explores solutions to the problem of visiting scientists, educators and students roaming between institutions, making access to Research and Education networks as simple and ubiquitous as possible, while providing respect for IT policies and security.

A first attempt consists of using the well known IEEE 802.1x protocol, and proxy authentication requests along a hierarchy of RADIUS servers, much like EDUROAM does it today. The FWNA server, representing in the RADIUS hierarchy the top level server for .edu domains, connects directly to the EDUROAM server, giving access to at least 18 countries around the planet, representing more than 400 institutions.

Countries represented include The Netherlands, UK, Germany, Greece, Czech Republic, Spain, Portugal, Croatia, Slovenia, Denmark, Poland, Latvia, Finland, Norway, Luxembourg, Bulgaria, Italy, and Australia.

In the USA, FWNA is looking for connectors! Apply today!
